Choosing Your Challenge

Finding the cause or reason to run a charity event is normally the easy part, especially at the moment; we have people from all generations taking on amazing challenges that up until recently wouldn’t have dreamt they were even capable of!

The events you remember will all have had something unique about them and that is what will make your event stand out from the crowd, giving you the best opportunity to raise the kind of money and awareness you are hoping for.

There are two main options when it comes to choosing the style of your event:

Go big in terms of distance

Go big in terms of participation

Both of these options have great marketing potential to reach a wider audience of supporters; they can both include the children in school as well as your community.

For a distance event you will need a small team, each member will have to raise a higher percentage per person, but the magnitude of the event will allow for this. Finding something that hasn’t been completed by schools or teachers before will also push you in the right direction.

Your event might be one of the following:

DISTANCE
taking a small team to cover a large distance
Bike Rides
Runs
Hikes & Climbs
Swims
Team relays

For large numbers you will be looking for an event that is accessible to many. This way each participant will only need to raise a much smaller amount. You will create a buzz through the sheer amount of people involved. 700 teachers run a virtual 5k? This will catch people’s attention.

PARTICIPANTS
reach out to a huge team to cover a shorter distance individually, but larger distance collectively
Virtual events (covering a set distance over a period of time)
Multi school challenges
10km Hikes
5km runs

If you’re feeling ultra-ambitious combine the two, your core team complete their challenge just as the masses begin theirs!

As well as what your staff take on, as schools we have potentially hundreds of children and families who will be happy to support the event, through donations and their own personal involvement!

So next time you are looking at a way to bring your staff, pupils or community closer together whilst supporting a cause that is meaningful to your school, exploring the option of an active challenge could be worth considering.
