Burn out, stress, boredom are all things that we can find ourselves feeling throughout our working life. No matter our job role. Even if we love our profession it’s impossible to stay passionate and work at a top level every day.

But there are simple things we can do to ensure we can live a well balanced and sustainable life, and it begins with us. As the saying goes, “you can’t pour from an empty cup”.
When it comes to our health and ensuring longevity small changes really do add up, and this counts for our personal lives as well.
If our bodies are healthy we are going to have more energy each day, energy we can use to drive our passions. Below are a few examples of small changes we can ‘easily’ build into our routines that will help us maintain energy or even unlock that next level.
- Take the stairs instead of the escalators
- Remove sugar from your tea or coffee
- Walk any journeys that take less than 5 minutes in the car
- Do 10 push ups when you wake up
- Drink an extra glass of water per day
- Wake up 15 minutes earlier and appreciate the time rather than rushing

None of these ideas are exactly re-inventing the wheel, and in isolation you may think that an extra glass of water won’t make you any better at your job, and you might be right. But… stretch that out over a year and that’s an extra 150+ pints of water intake or over 3kg of sugar you’re not putting into your body! The other thing your changing which I think is the most important part is your mindset!

By achieving these small daily challenges you are creating mini chances of success. If you have already achieved 10 push ups that morning when a slice of cake is offered to you in the office, turning it down is just another mini win.
By building these small changes into your day you’re ultimately allowing yourself to excel in your field over a prolonged period of time. Hopefully enabling you to be happy and both physically and mentally healthy as you continue to give every task that needs your attention the energy it deserves!

I’d love to hear any small changes you have made to your routines that have allowed you to have greater success or enjoyment throughout your day!
