Inset Day and Staff CPD programmes

I offer an adaptable Inset Day/Staff CPD programme that is designed to inspire and equip staff with the tools to discover and implement active opportunities beyond PE lessons. Working closely with curriculum leads, I provide an enriching and thought provoking day tailored to each school’s unique setting.

The aim? To uncover the hidden potential for physical activity throughout your school day, opportunities that benefit pupils, staff, parents, carers, and the wider community.

What to Expect from the day:

  • A session led by myself, offering over 15 years of tried and tested real-world examples that can be customised to each school’s specific context.

  • Full Inset Day: Perfect for individual schools wanting to allow their curriculum lead to fully immerse themselves in their subject for the whole day. Or if you would like to spread the knowledge across different staff members, we can offer a broader approach to the day.
  • Cluster or MAT Workshops: Collaborate with local schools to host a workshop for your network, fostering shared growth and collaboration.

Example Day’s

1:1 with your PE curriculum Lead

  • Start the day by looking over the current active offer outside of PE lessons.
  • Highlight personal and school aims for the future as well as unpick gaps in current knowledge and/or confidence.
  • Select a minimum of 3 areas to focus on throughout the day, for example:
    • Planning a whole school event.
    • Building a wide and impactful club offer.
    • Planning and delivering a trip.
    • Working with external sports clubs.
  • End the day by building an action plan to take forward with confidence.

Working with a cluster of schools

  • The day will begin by understand the needs of the group and what each person would like to gain from the session.
  • Attendees will build a vision for what they would love their school’s active offer to look like, both initially and in the future.
  • As a group, we will select a minimum of 3 areas to focus on throughout the day, for example:
    • Inter school collaboration opportunities.
    • Staff fitness challenges.
    • Community outreach clubs.
    • Fundraising events and opportunities.
  • End the day by building an action plan to take forward with confidence.

Tailored day in your school

A tailored day in your school can look however you like, an example template may look like this:

  • 0900- 1000: Sitting with Senior Leaders to discuss their vision for the future as well as gaps they would like to fill in the current active offer.
  • 1000-1200: Working with PE curriculum lead, highlighting quick wins across the school to increase the active offer outside of PE. Build an action plan to grow on over time.
  • 1230-1400: Look into community options alongside a Family Worker or Parental Engagement lead to spot opportunities where activity and movement can be built in to strengthen community engagement.
  • 1400-1500: Support a pre selected group of staff looking at how to run active intervention sessions with key groups of pupils, using practical tools for success.
  • End of day: Sit back down with Senior Leaders, discuss the outcomes of the day as well as help to build a path going forward, helping your school reach their desired active outcome.
