Over the last 10 years I’ve learnt a lot from the bike miles I’ve put into getting to school and back. Here are my top 10 lessons;
1) You become extremely good at telling what vehicle is behind you just from the sound.

2) You get immense pleasure from overtaking a car in traffic who has zoomed past you 2 minutes earlier.
3) You will do whatever you can to avoid uncliping at roundabouts and traffic lights.
4) You will ride on cycle paths during a commute that you wouldn’t touch on a weekend ride.

5) Just because it says it’s ‘waterproof’ doesn’t mean it actually is waterproof.
6) The day you do take the car the traffic will be terrible and you will sit there wishing you had your bike.
7) It’s crazy how unfazed you are by lorries and cars passing within a meter of you.
8) Dogs on long leads on cycle ways are out to tangle you up.
9) Riding with a full back pack twice a day makes you appreciate your rides without one so much more.

10) Your subconscious remembers every major pot hole on your route that you could avoid them with your eyes closed!
These are my top 10 from the 30+ I came up with during my ride this morning; let me know what you think I have missed!

That’s a good list! I recon I could still remember every pothole from my old cycle commute. They get ingrained into your brain day in day out.
