Active Citizen Programme

One group. Up to 10 pupils. Six weeks. In School

A targeted investment in helping children develop the confidence, skills and belief to become active contributors to their school and community.

Every child has ideas, strengths and the potential to make a difference. But not every child gets the opportunity to discover that for themselves.

The Active Citizen Programme gives a carefully selected group of pupils the time, support and encouragement to develop their confidence, find their voice and turn their ideas into action.

Through practical activities, teamwork and a child-led project, pupils discover that their opinions matter, they can take responsibility and they have the ability to influence the world around them.

The children generate the ideas. Dan helps them develop the confidence, skills and support to bring those ideas to life.

Who is it for?

Up to 10 pupils from Years 4, 5 and 6 who would benefit from additional opportunities to develop their confidence, communication, creativity and leadership.

The programme is particularly suited to children who may not routinely put themselves forward, volunteer ideas, access enrichment opportunities or see themselves as leaders.

What will the children gain?

By the end of the programme, we want pupils to have developed:

  • Confidence and self-belief: recognising their strengths and understanding that their ideas matter.
  • Communication: expressing opinions, listening to others and speaking with peers and adults.
  • Creative thinking: identifying opportunities, exploring possibilities and solving problems.
  • Leadership: taking responsibility, making decisions and working collaboratively.
  • Enterprise: developing an idea, planning it and taking practical steps to make it happen.
  • Community awareness: understanding how they can contribute positively to their school and wider community.

The ambition is for every child to leave thinking:

“I have ideas. My ideas matter. I can make things happen.”
