Active Citizen Framework

Developing belonging, confidence and leadership through meaningful responsibility.

Creating opportunities to belong, lead and contribute.

Through an organic framework I am helping schools develop confident, active and inclusive communities by giving pupils meaningful opportunities to lead, take responsibility and make a difference.

What if we stopped asking who makes a good leader?

And started asking:

Which children would benefit most from becoming one?

Through the Active Citizen Framework, I’ll work alongside the young people in your school who might not naturally put themselves forward to be a house captain, speak in front of the class or take on a traditional leadership role.

They might have brilliant ideas, but lack the confidence to share them. They might have lots to contribute, but simply haven’t had the opportunity to do so.

These are the young people we want to give a voice, a role and a reason to contribute.
Through Active Citizen, we’ll create meaningful opportunities for them to lead, take responsibility and make a difference in their school and wider community.

These examples aren’t simply clubs. They’re opportunities for real responsibility.

Sport & Activity

Developing young sports leaders, delivering mini festivals and opportunities for others to be active.

Wellbeing

Building projects that promote kindness, connection, belonging and wellbeing.

Eco

Children taking responsibility for improving their environment and engaging their community.

Charity

Pupils identify causes that matter to them and lead meaningful fundraising or awareness projects.

Community

Working with the local community to build relationships with organisations and people beyond the school gates.

Food

Bridging the gap between the kitchen and the dining tables, working along side the children to decide what’s on the menu and when.

How I can help your school

Every school will start from a different place. I can work with you to introduce the Active Citizen framework, develop an existing pupil leadership approach or help your staff build it into your wider school culture.

I can support you to:

  • Identify pupils who could benefit from meaningful leadership opportunities
  • Develop inclusive recruitment and selection processes
  • Establish Active Citizen teams
  • Help pupils identify issues they want to change
  • Develop and deliver pupil-led projects
  • Connect pupils with local community organisations
  • Coach staff to facilitate pupil leadership
  • Measure and celebrate the impact of the work
  • Build the approach into your school’s longer-term inclusion strategy

Built around your school

The Active Citizen framework isn’t a one size fits all programme.

You might want to start with one team, develop an existing leadership structure, or work towards a whole school approach.

I can work alongside your staff to introduce the framework, facilitate the early stages and gradually build your school’s own capacity to sustain it.

Could the Active Citizen framework work in your school?

I’d love to hear what you’re already doing, what you’d like to improve and where you think your pupils could have a greater voice.

Get in touch and let’s start a conversation.
